A different perspective.
AAFKES STRATEGY was not created to become another strategy consultancy. It was founded on the belief that the most valuable strategic advice comes from experience, independence and continuous market observation.
Experience in international business, distribution and commercial strategy has shown that the strongest strategic decisions begin with stepping back, challenging assumptions and seeing the market from a broader perspective.
That belief continues to define everything AAFKES STRATEGY does today. By combining independent thinking with practical business experience, we help organisations make strategic decisions with greater clarity, confidence and a long-term perspective.
Built through experience.
Experience is often described as something that is accumulated over time. In reality, it is something that gradually changes the way you look at markets and businesses.
Years spent working alongside international brands, distributors and retailers provided far more than an understanding of how products move through markets. They revealed how strategic decisions are shaped, how commercial relationships develop over time and how seemingly small changes in consumer behaviour can ultimately redefine entire markets.
Observing those developments from within the industry offered a perspective that cannot be gained from reports, presentations or isolated market research alone.
Throughout those years, the international business landscape continued to transform. Digitalisation accelerated, international consolidation reshaped distribution networks and retailers adapted to changing consumer expectations. Experiencing those developments first-hand made one thing increasingly clear: the organisations that continued to succeed were rarely those that reacted the fastest, but those that understood their markets deeply enough to anticipate change before it became obvious.
That understanding continues to shape every strategic engagement at AAFKES STRATEGY. It provides the context needed to interpret market developments, challenge assumptions and support organisations in making decisions that are not only relevant today, but remain meaningful as markets continue to evolve.
Why independence matters.
Independent strategic advice requires the freedom to question assumptions, challenge established thinking and consider alternatives without being influenced by commercial interests or predetermined outcomes.
At AAFKES STRATEGY, independence means approaching every strategic question with an open mind. We are not tied to particular brands, distribution partners or implementation models. Our role is to assess possibilities, examine their implications and help organisations understand the choices available to them.
This separation between strategic advice and execution allows us to focus on what we believe matters most: providing clarity, perspective and considered judgement so that decisions are made in the interests of the organisation and its long-term direction.
Supported by continuous market intelligence.
Experience provides perspective, but experience alone is never enough. Markets continue to evolve, consumer expectations change and competitive dynamics shift continuously. Strategic advice that relies solely on past experience inevitably becomes less relevant over time. That is why independent thinking must always be supported by continuous market observation and an ongoing understanding of industry developments.
Rather than relying solely on occasional research or periodic market reports, AAFKES STRATEGY draws on continuous market intelligence, complemented by targeted research into the industries and markets relevant to each strategic question. Developments in brands, retail, distribution, consumer behaviour and broader market dynamics are examined to understand their potential implications within a wider commercial context.
That continuity creates something isolated research rarely can. It provides context. Individual events are no longer viewed as separate occurrences, but as part of broader developments that gradually reshape industries. Over time, those observations create a deeper understanding of how markets evolve and why certain changes matter more than others.
For AAFKES STRATEGY, market intelligence is therefore not simply a source of information. It forms the perspective that allows practical experience, independent thinking and continuous market observation to come together in support of better strategic decision-making.
Looking ahead.
Every generation of business leaders faces its own challenges. Markets change, industries evolve and the assumptions that once shaped successful organisations are continually tested by new realities.
The organisations that continue to thrive are not necessarily those that attempt to predict every change. More often, they are the organisations that remain curious, question their own thinking and are prepared to adapt when circumstances change.
That belief defines the way AAFKES STRATEGY approaches every strategic engagement. Rather than offering predefined models or standard consultancy frameworks, we focus on creating the clarity that allows leaders to make considered decisions in an increasingly complex environment. Practical experience, independent thinking and continuous market intelligence together provide the perspective needed to navigate uncertainty.
The future will always remain uncertain. Making better decisions does not remove that uncertainty, but it creates a stronger foundation from which organisations can grow, adapt and build lasting value.
About the founder
Edward Kloppenburg founded AAFKES STRATEGY with a clear objective: to provide independent strategic advice grounded in practical business experience, continuous market observation and independent thinking.
His professional background lies in the international luxury fragrance industry, where he developed distribution strategies, introduced brands into new markets and built long-term commercial partnerships across Europe. Working closely with brand owners, senior executives, distributors and retailers provided first-hand insight into how markets develop, how distribution structures evolve and how strategic decisions influence long-term brand value.
His career also coincided with significant changes in the international business environment. Digitalisation, market consolidation, evolving consumer behaviour and shifting distribution models challenged established commercial strategies. Experiencing these developments from within the industry shaped his understanding of how businesses respond to change and why strategic decisions must consider more than immediate commercial opportunities.
Establishing AAFKES STRATEGY marked a deliberate shift from commercial execution to independent strategic advisory. Rather than representing brands or managing distribution networks, the focus is now on helping organisations evaluate their options, challenge assumptions and determine their strategic direction.
The philosophy behind AAFKES STRATEGY is straightforward: practical experience provides context, independent thinking challenges established perspectives and continuous market intelligence helps identify meaningful change. Together, they provide a foundation for better-informed strategic decisions.
